Food For Your Ears

With sessions on starting out, songwriting, getting gigs, and marketing.
AND a BBQ and bands.
10am – 10.10: Welcome
10.10 – 11.00: One Byte At A Time
As an independent artist, you know that digital downloading is huge -- and you're probably wondering how to get your cut of the action! Downloading services such as iTunes, eMusic, Napster, and Rhapsody have created a huge opportunity to sell your music to a large, diverse market, with little to no overhead costs. But how do you do it? What is a digital aggregator? This panel will give you the answer to those questions and more.
11.15 – 12.00: Spreading The Noise
The music industry has gone through monumental changes over the past five to ten years. The good news is that it's never been easier to record and reach a worldwide audience using the Internet. The bad news is that it's never been harder to cut through the clutter and stand out in a crowded music marketplace. You may have a MySpace page and a heap of fans but do they come to your gigs or buy your product? How do you connect with fans? This panel will give you some tips on how to market your music effectively.
12.00 – 1.00: Lunch & performance by Doug Ford
1.00– 1.45: Survival Strategies
For emerging artists getting ahead in the music industry can sometimes be a mystery. How do you put a promotional pack together, find gigs, get ahead. This panel will give you the lowdown on all the things you need to get out there and start getting your band working in the local industry.
1.45 – 2.30: Melodies & Mastering
This session focuses on the art of songwriting. Listen to an insight on how a successful songwriter creates his work and gives you tips and inspiration for how to bring the best out of your own songs and how to record them effectively.
2.45 – 3.30: Picture This!
Need some band photos? Or a video clip? Don’t know what is good, bad, what the needs are for different media, where to start? How do you even talk to people in these related industries? Music photography & music video costs and it can be an expensive mistake if you don’t get it right. Learn from three masters of the game.
